

In November 2008, one of Obama’s advisers gave an interview to journalist Jon Swaine of The Daily Telegraph titled, “Barack Obama: The 50 facts you might not know.” In the interview, it emerged that Obama collects “Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian” comic books. A month later, the comic was followed up by Presidential Material: Barack Obama by Jeff Mariotte and in November 2008 with Obama: The Comic Book by Rod Espinosa.

This marked a significant moment for Obama as a comic book character it was the first time that a future president had been shown on a comic book cover.

This issue featured a variant cover which showed Obama with the Savage Dragon, who proclaims that he is endorsing him for President. A year later, in September 2008, Obama appeared in Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon #137. The comic by Nat Gertler only had a print-run of 1,050 issues. President Barack Obama made his first appearance as a comic book character in July 2007, where he appeared as a U.S. The Museum of UnCut Funk collection contains both pro and anti-Obama comics to ensure that this important moment in political history is throughly preserved. There are also a number of comic books that express opinions of those who dislike the President. Within our collection are comics that speak to the road Obama travelled to become President, winning the election and his first 100 days in office. Regardless of your views and opinions of President Barack Obama, he has been touted as a hero in the comic book world.
